The Heart Chakra
With the holiday season coming and going, the energy flow to the chakra can flood with energy or close right up. The love and joy that we may experience or the hurt and loneliness, stress about our finances and expectations met or failed, can all have an impact on the flow of universal energy through our bodies and minds. When our heart chakra is open we are filled with compassion, love and an appreciation for what we have around us and within in us. The heart chakra is believed to join the most basic universal and spiritual desires; the center through which we experience beauty, gratitude and compassion.
Location, Colour and Symbol:
The heart chakra is our fourth energy centre and can be found at the heart centre; the exact center of your chest. When visualizing the heart chakra a vision of emerald green, or at times a smoky pink may appear. The heart chakra relates not only to the heart functions of emotion and blood circulation but also to the lungs and thymus gland.
The symbol associated with the heart chakra is a twelve-petal circle with a downward-pointing triangle that is intertwined with an upward-facing triangle; representing the element of air and the unification of contrary principles such as spirit and physical matter.
Signs of a Blocked or Closed Chakra:
The heart chakra primarily focuses on connection and relating to others and Self. When our heart chakra does not have a free flowing positive energy it can become blocked or closed. This can be as a result of life experiences, difficult conversations, or changes to the physical environment. Watching the terrible state of some world affairs can even cause the heart chakra to become imbalanced. Signs of a blocked or imbalanced heart chakra include defensiveness, feelings of jealousy, reliance on other people’s approval, feelings of isolation, the inability to forgive or the holding of grudges. An imbalanced energy flow can also present through physical ailments such as lung infections or heart-related issues.
